What You Need to Know about The Arc’s Privacy Policy
The Arc collects Personal and Non-Personal information
When you browse our website, you do so anonymously. Personal information is not collected, unless you voluntarily provide us with information as described below. To improve performance and design of the website and provide better service, The Arc tracks site usage through information captured in log files. The information collected is basic statistical data, such as channels and sections viewed, time of access and amount of time spent on pages, search phrases used to reach the Arc’s site, and browser type. This information is non-personal and is collected in the aggregate.
Through The Arc website, you may choose to become a member, donate, join our Action Alert grassroots network, join one of our e-Communities or subscribe to The Arc’s e-newsletter. The personal information collected through these transactions includes name, address, phone number, email address, and, when you make a financial transaction, your credit card number.
By voluntarily providing your email address to The Arc Minnesota by becoming a member, joining one of our email distribution lists, submitting information through a form, or working with The Arc Minnesota staff, you are opting in to receive further email communications via our email service provider or staff at The Arc Minnesota. These emails may include surveys, events, and other promotional materials. You can opt out of emails at any time by unsubscribing at the link in your emails, or by emailing info@arcminnesota.org
The Arc’s use of “cookies”
A cookie is a small amount of data stored as a text file. The data contains a unique identification number assigned by our system that recognizes your browser when you come to The Arc website, but does not recognize you as an individual. These cookies remain on your system and are automatically retrieved when you return to our website later. The Arc does not use cookies for any other reason than to assist with an efficient connection to our website and to save your text size preferences. You may choose to set the Internet properties of your computer to alert you each time a cookie is being stored on your computer, or you may prohibit cookies all together. In addition, you may delete cookies that have already been stored on your hard drive.
Consent to receive text messages (SMS)
The Arc uses short messaging service (SMS) for conversational person-to-person communication between you and our employees. We will send you a first message explaining the service and how to opt-in to continue. After that, the number of text messages you receive will vary depending on how you use our services and whether you take steps to engage in more text exchanges (like sending a HELP request).
The use of texting may include sharing your information with service providers like phone companies and vendors who assist us in the delivery of mobile messaging. We do not sell, rent, release, or transfer your SMS consent or phone number for any third-party marketing purposes. These terms apply only to your use of our text message service. It does not change our general privacy policy which may apply in other communication channels.
You are not obligated to receive text messages. If you no longer want to receive text messages, you may reply to any text message with STOP, QUIT, END, REVOKE, OPT OUT, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE. Opt-out requests are specific to each conversation between you and one of our employees and their associated phone number. After unsubscribing, we may send you a final text confirming your opt-out status.
We do not charge you for the messages you send and receive via this text message service. However, message and data rates may apply depending on the terms of your carrier and other applicable providers.
