Youth Volunteering & Requirements
Individuals aged 16+ can create an Arc Volunteer Account and sign up to volunteer with us. Youth aged 8-15 can volunteer, but must do so under the supervision of a parent or adult chaperone. We ask for a 1 adult per every 6 children ratio. This is to ensure everyone's safety.
Adult chaperones must be aged 18 or older and must be present with their youth volunteer(s) during the entirety of the volunteering. See below for additional information as it relates to youth volunteering at Arc's Value Village.
What You Need to Know
Typical Volunteer tasks at Arc’s Value Village include:
- Unpacking and sorting donations
- Hanging clothing
- Stocking clothing and household items on the sales floor
- Organizing, sizing or colorizing clothing
- Welcoming and greeting guests
- Assisting with donation retrevial from vehicles
Chaperone Requirement Information
Chaperones are essential in creating exciting and safe experiences for our youth volunteers! Chaperones help us by:
- Bringing youth volunteers at a ratio of 1 adult for every 6 youth volunteers.
- Being present and support their youth for the entirety of the volunteer shift.
- Listening to, supporting and reinforcing Arc Value Village staff instructions.
- Encourage youth to stay on task and off of mobile phones.
- Ensure youth are using approproiate language and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
- Assisting you with their volunteer duties.
- Helping youth understand why their volunteering is important to The Arc mission.
- Helping youth understand how their voluntering at Arc's Value Village positively impacts people with disabilities and our general community.
