The administration is considering a $40 billion or 30% cut to the budget for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These cuts are being considered as part of a sweeping reorganization that would eliminate dozens of programs and consolidate key health agencies.
Disability focused cuts being considered include the Administration for Community Living (ACL), the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living & Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) and University Centers of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Program (like the Institute on Community Integration or ICI). Governor's Councils on Developmental Disabilities would also be eliminated.
Because these cuts are still being considered, NOW is the time to act!
Please join us at the Rally for Rights event as we try and protect the institutions, research and entities that support people with disabilities. Volunteers are needed 10am - 2pm to assist speakers, help with greeting, cheerleading, sign making, visual and media coordination, event support, set up and clean up, ASL intrepretation and a host of other duties.
